Softwall cleanroom in Coventry for the printing industry
Benefits
· Class 7 (Federal class 10,000) · 79 air changes per hour · 43 m square · Air supply HEPA 0.99 m3/s
This enclosure covers the final stage of the manufacture of the print screen. The screen is removed from the laminating process and then placed in the annealing oven. The screens are then stacked and removed from the enclosure through an isolated transfer area. The purpose of the cleanroom is to reduce particulate within the area prior to laminating the screen. The results of the cleanroom have seen a significant reduction in rejects and a greater confidence in the screen manufacturing process.
Installation of a cleanroom at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork.
The room was required to house a scanning electron microscope (Zeiss SUPRA25 Schottky FEG) for electron beam lithography and nanometer scale resolution microscopy within the Photonic Nanostructure Group, for SFI Volkswagen Foundation, and European Commission funded research projects.
The highly sophisticated equipment needed to be isolated and housed in an extremely clean environment with additional stringent specifications on electrical noise and vibration. However, space was tight in the existing room and building a new one was not an option however creating a room within a room was the alternative.
The room consisted of a Class 5 room, 3.75 meter square, with an integral changing area, 1m x 2.5m.
Cleanroom technology steps back in time
Connect2Cleanrooms installed two softwall cleanrooms at Cambridge University to help the department gain interesting insights into our past and shed some light on human evolution.
The Leverhulme Centre for Human Evolutionary Studies at Cambridge University is conducting research into evolution using ancient DNA. This can be found in all biological materials, including bones recovered from fossil and archaeological sites. Because the DNA degrades so much, very little is left, and it is easily contaminated.
The Leverhulme Centre is headed by Professor Robert Foley, who comments, this contamination has proved to be a major problem for this field of research, and the cleanroom provides excellent sterile conditions in which to extract the remnant DNA.
Connect 2 Cleanrooms installed two cleanrooms within a new, purpose built laboratory in the department. The rooms also consist of two isolated outer rooms to prevent the risk of cross contamination in the work areas. The main cleanrooms have laminar flow, and a bench area built to ISO Class 5, whilst the outer environment is built to ISO Class 6. In addition, a gowning area is also provided, built to ISO Class 7.
Both bench areas and outer areas are fitted with black UV light for germicidal disinfection. The UV disinfection is switchable from a safety perspective and only operative in an unoccupied state.
All work surfaces within the laminar flow area are produced from Grade 316 stainless steel in order to inhibit the growth of micro organisms. These surfaces are also removable for easy cleaning and disinfection.
Connect2Cleanrooms also produces a range of stainless steel cleanroom furniture, whilst cleanroomshop.com supplies all the consumables needed to maintain the cleanroom thereafter.
Installation of a softwall cleanroom within temporary buildings.
The need for this particular cleanroom arose following a review that included a self assessment survey by the Scottish NHS trust on the sterilization and packing of products within the CSSD (Sterile Services Departments). The finds of this survey initially found that only 4 out 28 hospitals within Scotland were meeting the Medical Device Standard EN46002.
Due to greater risks of CJD within certain opthalmological and neurosurgical procedures, commitment was made to improve standards throughout many CSSDs.
During the upgrading of existing CSSD facilities at one hospital, it was decided to relocate part of the instrument packing functions to temporary facilities adjacent to the department in a temporary building. This building was sited to retain direct access in to the main hospital building.
Connect 2 Cleanrooms was tasked with equipping this temporary building with a Softwall cleanroom that would achieve ISO Class 14644 part 1 Class 8. The cleanroom was delivered to schedule and fully installed and validated with only 3 days on site. The room has a volume 233m3 and achieved an air change rate of 85.11 changes per hour. The room was successfully validated to the above standard. The layout of the room was divided into 3 zones allowing air quality to be varied and monitored within these zones.
The Softwall cleanroom met the acceptance criteria and exceeded the required air change rates and particulate levels on the day of testing.
Mini Environment for Injection Moulding
Benefits
Class 7 (US Federal 10,000) 84 air changes per hour 8.32m2 Air supply ULPA Filtration
This mobile enclosure positioned over the clamp area of an Injection Moulding Machine. The machine in this situation was already sited within a Class 8 area. The Softwall enclosure creates a mini environment where the cleanroom standard is improved.
The unit comes complete with storage and transfer area together with a change/lobby area. Additional lighting is supplied using tear drop design fluorescent fittings, with filter monitoring in place using Magnehelic differential pressure gauges. The room is built on swivel braked castors giving freedom to move the room for maintenance and mould changes.
Dual Environment for Precision manufacturing
· Class (Federal class 100) · 240 air changes per hour · Temperature and Humidity Control · Air supply ULPA filters
A new centre capable of designing, prototyping and manufacturing micro scale medical devices on site has opened at The University of Nottingham within a ISO Class 5 Cleanroom environment. Medical advances have created a demand for smaller, lighter, smarter products, so companies need to adopt new high precision processes to remain competitive. The Nottingham Centre of Excellence in Customised Assembly (CECA) in the School of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering is focused on micro and meso scale products. It brings together the latest precision manufacturing technologies in micro-moulding, laser processing, micro-machining and metrology that companies can use to test the commercial potential of new micro products and processes. The cleanroom is supported by world leading manufacturers of high precision production equipment including Battenfeld, Kern, Karl Zeiss, Beckhoff Automation, Feintool Automation, Hitachi and others.

Benefits
Temperature controlled 21+ / - 2 degrees Integral 500kg 3 axis crane with electric hoist 97m2 4 m internal height clearance
This fixed enclosure is installed at a leading engine manufacturer to condition machined components prior to quality inspection on CMM equipment. The flexibility of the system allows all services to be housed on the enclosure. The system can therefore be demounted and relocated if required. The entire project was installed within 4 days from delivery of components. The frame system is used to support the Metreel Carne in a Box crane with colour matched paintwork.
