Our Story (Part 1) – The Early Years (2002-2007)

As we are celebrating a milestone 15 years in business, we have been looking back over the years at the experiences that have shaped us into who we are today.

Before forming Connect 2 Cleanrooms in 2002, husband and wife team, Joe & Lizzie Govier were running an injection moulding business. 

In order to win business in the medical and pharma device market, they found themselves looking for a reasonably priced modular cleanroom with a quick turnaround. They couldn't find one, so Joe constructed one himself. Had we mentioned Joe’s a qualified engineer?

Knowing that he could help similar businesses with his cleanrooms, Joe decided to form Connect 2 Cleanrooms. 

The same day our company website launched, an enquiry landed immediately for Manchester University, which Joe went and installed himself.

In those early start-up days, Joe was hands on for all our cleanroom installations. Now we have a 20 strong installation & validation team he doesn’t get the chance to be on the tools as much!

Inspire Educate & Innovate

To support our cleanroom customers we launched in 2003 and began distributing cleanroom consumables and equipment. Always pioneering new technologies, was the first e-commerce platform in the industry. 

We chose early on to distribute only the most trusted products, so we began to form relationships with DuPont & Ecolab – who we are proud to still work with closely to this day.

Over the years, as we grew in experience, our contamination control solutions developed too – from ISO Class 5 cleanrooms (2004) to laminar flow cabinets (2005). Innovation has always been our passion - you can see our case studies page to see the advanced solutions we are creating now. 

Someone who remembers those early years in business well is our longest serving employee, Mark Jackson, "Connect 2 Cleanrooms has never stood still - investing in people, to allow us to grow. Our family values have always been there from the start and have remained through the years. As the company grows I feel it is a very important part that we need to keep hold of - the challenge, the adventure, the people”.

By the time we turned 5 in 2007, we’d outgrown the office and units we were based at in Caton, Lancashire, so we moved North up the M6 to Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria. 

The business park facility with a larger office space and warehouse unit underneath meant we could hold more products in stock and have more space to prepare our cleanrooms for dispatch. But how long would we stay there?
